Where are the bodies? The casts
Thirteen casts in the Garden of the Fugitives, where the people were found, and twenty-two in the permanent exhibition in the Large Palaestra, open since March 12, 2026. Both on your ticket.
Vesuvius: the crater
€10, sold online only. Up to 360 people an hour in groups of 20; last admission 17:00 in September, 15:00 in winter. The path is 4,010 m and about 2.5 hours for the full path, if the ring is open.
Amphitheatre
Built in 70 BC, the oldest known. Since June 14, viewing from the southern entrance only.
House of the Vettii
On the €20 ticket. Open 9:15–16:20, last entrance 16:00.
Villa of the Mysteries
Outside the walls, past Porta Ercolano. The €25 ticket includes it; with a €20 ticket you can add the villas for €8 by card at the gate.

€20 is the city only. €25 adds the Villa of the Mysteries, the Villa of Diomedes and Boscoreale. €30 Pompeii Plus adds Oplontis and Stabiae over three days. All of them carry your name and count against 20,000 a day.
Pompeii or Herculaneum?
Pompeii if it's your one day near Naples. Herculaneum if you have two hours, or have seen Pompeii: €16, the same train line, more than four of its twenty hectares visible.
How long do I need?
The park says 2 to 3 hours minimum. I'd allow four for my Amphitheatre-to-Forum route, or a full day with the villa.
Can I visit without a guide?
Yes. The park's free map has three paths; audio guides rent at the gates, €9 for one adult guide; the park's own 1.5-hour tours cost €8 per person plus your park ticket.
Is Vesuvius active?
Yes, in a quiet phase: last eruption 1944, alert level green, summit 1,281 m. The crater path is open on a €10 ticket, about 2.5 hours.
Vesuvius the same day?
Yes, if your crater slot and transport leave time for both. The crater ticket is €10, online only; last admission 15:00 to 18:00 by month.

Thirteen casts in the Garden of the Fugitives and twenty-two in the Large Palaestra exhibition. Both on your ticket; nearest gate Piazza Anfiteatro.
Add Herculaneum or Vesuvius?
Herculaneum is on the same Circumvesuviana line: get off at Ercolano Scavi. Vesuvius needs a bus from Pompei Villa dei Misteri, or a taxi or shuttle from Ercolano Scavi, and has its own ticket and its own clock.
Herculaneum
Much smaller than Pompeii: more than four of its twenty hectares are visible, the rest under modern Ercolano. The Central Baths and the College of the Augustales are among the buildings named by the park. I'd allow two hours; that's my estimate, not the park's.
Vesuvius crater
A guided walk on the crater path, 4,010 m and about 2.5 hours, in groups of 20. The full ring may be unavailable; check the park's page before you go. Buses go up from Pompei Villa dei Misteri; the path closes on an orange weather alert.

Two Circumvesuviana lines stop at Pompeii, and each stop has its own gate. Pick your city. Times, fares and the first and last train are counted from the operators' own timetable and fare calculator, and each city has a page of its own.
