Pompeii tours from Sorrento and the Amalfi coast: our selection

Our selection: 5 of the 128 Pompeii tours from Sorrento and the coast listed on Viator. We went through them all and kept the five with the best reviews, ratings and what's actually in the price. Then we compared those five by time inside Pompeii, trip length, park entry, other stops, group size and where you meet.

By Chiara Vitale · Updated September 20, 2026

Choose your departure town first. These five shared coach and minibus trips leave Sorrento or Salerno and take 5 to 8 hours. Viator starting prices run from €65 to €155 per adult.

The Sorrento half-day includes 2.5 hours with a guide. You'll get the same time with an archaeologist on the Salerno port trip. Choose its Salerno option for the bus.

For Vesuvius, the Piazza Tasso coach gives you 2.5 hours inside Pompeii. Bar Kontatto's minibus gives you 2 hours there. The Herculaneum day includes 2 guided hours at each site and lunch.

Pompeii entry is included on all five. The ticket type isn't named, so check Villa of the Mysteries access. On the Piazza Tasso trip, Vesuvius closures can mean Herculaneum instead.

What I'd do: I'd book the Sorrento half-day if Pompeii were my priority.

Choose From Salerno for the bus from Molo Manfredi. Entry and 2.5 hours with an archaeologist are included. The bus brings you back to the port.

It fits if you're starting at Salerno port. The Sorrento departures serve you better if that's where you're staying.

What should I check before booking?

How much do these Pompeii trips cost?

Budget from €65 to €155 per adult for the five shared options. These starting prices were. The Salerno bus option starts at €65. From Sorrento, Pompeii only starts at €75. The Piazza Tasso Vesuvius day starts at €115 and the Bar Kontatto minibus at €122. The Herculaneum day with lunch starts at €155.

How long is the trip, and how long do I get in Pompeii?

Allow 5 hours for Pompeii from Sorrento or the Salerno bus option. Both give you 2.5 guided hours inside Pompeii. The combined days take 8 hours. The Piazza Tasso Vesuvius day includes 2.5 guided hours in Pompeii. The Bar Kontatto minibus and Herculaneum day give you 2 guided hours. The Herculaneum day adds 2 guided hours at the second site. What I'd do: take a Pompeii-only trip to keep the day shorter.

Will the tour pick me up at my hotel?

Plan to reach the meeting point yourself. The Pompeii half-day and Piazza Tasso Vesuvius day meet at the office behind the Tasso statue in Sorrento. The minibus option meets at Bar Kontatto. For Herculaneum and lunch, use your assigned Sorrento stop, such as Achille Lauro parking. The Salerno bus meets at Molo Manfredi port. Hotel pickup isn't guaranteed on these shared options.

Are entry tickets and lunch included?

Pompeii entry is included on all five compared options. The combined days also cover Vesuvius or Herculaneum entry. Only the Herculaneum day includes lunch on the option compared. Check Villa of the Mysteries access before booking. The €20 park ticket covers the city; the €25 ticket adds the villa. Those park prices took effect January 12, 2026. These tours don't name their Pompeii ticket type. What I'd do: choose the Herculaneum day to have lunch arranged.

Can I bring a baby or children?

Yes. On the Pompeii half-day and Piazza Tasso Vesuvius day, infants are 0 to 2 and children 3 to 12. The Bar Kontatto minibus uses infant ages 0 to 3 and child ages 4 to 17. Herculaneum and lunch uses 0 to 1 and 2 to 11. Infants sit on an adult's lap on these Sorrento trips. The Salerno tour has a child band of 0 to 12. The adult band starts at 13.

How fit do I need to be?

You'll spend 2 to 2.5 hours walking in Pompeii. The Piazza Tasso Vesuvius day requires moderate fitness. So does the Herculaneum day, with 2 hours at each site. The Herculaneum trip isn't recommended if you have spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. The Salerno trip isn't recommended during pregnancy or with poor cardiovascular health.

What happens if Vesuvius closes or I need to cancel?

A weather closure brings a partial refund on the Bar Kontatto minibus. The Piazza Tasso Vesuvius day offers Herculaneum entry instead if the crater gate closes. You get a full refund on all five if you cancel at least 24 hours before departure. Later cancellations aren't refunded. What I'd do: book Piazza Tasso if a switch to Herculaneum would suit the day.

Which tour should I book for a first visit?

Start with the Pompeii half-day from Sorrento if you're staying there. Choose Half-Day Pompeii English Tour. Entry and the return coach are included. You get 2.5 hours with a guide inside Pompeii. The whole trip takes 5 hours, with one site visit. What I'd do: choose this for a first visit focused on Pompeii.

Do I need a car, and what if I already have one?

You don't need a car for any of the five shared trips. They include transport from their meeting points and back. If you're driving to Pompeii, the Salerno tour also has a separate 'From Pompei:' option. It meets at Piazza Esedra and leaves out the Salerno bus. What I'd do: book the Pompeii meeting option when driving there.

Can I take one of these tours from a cruise ship?

Look at the Salerno bus option if your ship calls there. It starts at Molo Manfredi port and returns there. The whole trip takes 5 hours. The Piazza Tasso Vesuvius day isn't suitable for cruise passengers. What I'd do: book Salerno only with a return time that fits the ship's boarding deadline.
