Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tours: 8 day trips compared
Our selection: 8 of the 296 Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tours listed on Viator. Each row is one named option: what the price covers, how long you actually get inside Pompeii and which coast towns you see.
Of the 45 listings that clear 4.5 stars and 30 reviews, we chose eight shared options to cover three starting areas and different kinds of day: three from Naples, three from coast hotels and two from Rome. This is an editorial shortlist, not the eight highest-scoring products, ordered by our published score, then compared those eight by how long you get inside Pompeii, which coast towns you stop in, whether the park ticket is in the price, group size and where the day starts. Viator data from October 19, 2026.

Choose by where you start and whether you want to see a coast town. Five of these eight combine Pompeii with Positano or Sorrento. Two take you from a coast hotel to Pompeii and back without a town stop, and one adds a Vesuvius winery instead.
Most allow a two-hour visit or guided walk in Pompeii. The Rome group tour allows three, the longest here; the Positano pickup lists a two-hour walk inside a stop of 2 hours 15 minutes. Allow 4 to 5 hours for the coast pickups, 6 to 7 for the winery day, 8 to 9 from Naples and 12 to 13 from Rome.
Five options include Pompeii entry. On the three from Naples you buy it: the park's city ticket costs €20, and on the Sorrento and coast day the operator asks €22 per adult in cash on arrival instead.
We chose eight shared options to cover the different places a day can start from and the different kinds of day: three from Naples, three from coast hotels and two from Rome. This is an editorial shortlist of the 45 listings that clear both of our rules, not the eight highest-scoring products; we then ordered the shortlist by our published score. Private cars, transfers that stop at Pompeii and the Rome coach we compare elsewhere sit below. If you sleep on the coast and want Pompeii and back in half a day, compare tours from Positano and the Amalfi Coast. For other day trips, compare departures from Naples, from Sorrento or from Rome; a day tied to a ship's call is in our shore excursions selection.
What I'd do: from a coast hotel, the Positano pickup for half a day. From Rome, the group tour for its three hours inside.
Which Pompeii and coast day should I choose?
The eight we kept, side by side.
Eight Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tours compared by the named option: time in Pompeii, trip length, other stops, park entry, group limit, price per adult or per group as labeled, and rating.
One row per tour, for the option named; the price is that option's lowest listed price, per adult or per group as marked in the row. Viator data from October 19, 2026. How tours are compared.
Who is each trip for?
1. Positano and Sorrento from Naples, shared group of up to 19
From Naples & Salerno: Tour of Amalfi Coast Sorrento, Pompeii
Option: Piazza Dante 80135 · English
Choose the Piazza Dante option for a day by road from Naples: an hour in Positano, 90 minutes in Sorrento and 2 hours in Pompeii, from €130 per person. The driver waits by the statue at 7:30 with your name on a sign.
A Naples base without a car, and anyone who wants the coast and the park in the same run.
Park entry isn't included, so add the park's €20 ticket. Up to 8 travelers get an audio guide inside, 12 or more a licensed guide, and the listing says nothing about groups of 9 to 11. The vehicle type isn't named. What I'd do: ask the operator which guide your date has, and buy the ticket before leaving home.

Book this if you are staying in Positano: pickup at your hotel or the nearest point a vehicle can reach, 2 guided hours in Pompeii with an archaeological guide, skip-the-line entry in the price, from €169 per person, back in 4 to 5 hours.
A coast holiday where you want Pompeii properly but not a whole day in a vehicle.
More expensive than the €149 coast-hotel half day, and lunch isn't included. A 2-hour guided walk within a stop of 2 hours 15 minutes. What I'd do: this one, and lunch back in Positano.

Pompeii Tour with Lunch and Wine Tasting from Positano
Choose this for Pompeii plus lunch and a tasting at a Vesuvius winery: 2 guided hours inside with entry included, then 2 hours at the cellars, from €239 per person, back in 6 to 7 hours.
Choose this from Positano if you want a Pompeii walk and a winery lunch; the day doesn't include a crater hike.
The highest price on this page, and two hours of it are at the winery rather than in the park. What I'd do: this if lunch matters as much as the site.

A half-day trip to Pompeii from a coast hotel outside Positano; confirm your hotel before paying.
There are no coast-town visits in the itinerary, and the pickup area names no towns. What I'd do: confirm my hotel's pickup before booking.

5. Sorrento and the coast from Naples, the most reviewed Naples day
Full-day Sorrento, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii from Naples or Salerno
Option: From Naples' train station · English
Take the Naples train station option for Positano, Sorrento and 2 guided hours in Pompeii, from €130 per person. It has 1,829 reviews, more than any other Naples day here, and meets outside Hotel Ramada at 8:30.
A first trip from Naples that wants the coast road as much as the park.
Park entry isn't included. The operator asks €22 per adult in cash on arrival, against the park's €20 city ticket, so ask whether it takes a ticket you bought yourself. The departure needs at least six people. What I'd do: book a weekday and settle the ticket question by message first.

Day Trip of Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano from Naples/Salerno
Option: From Naples at 8.30 AM · English
Book From Naples at 8.30 AM for the lowest price in this selection: a Positano viewpoint from the coast road, 90 minutes in Sorrento and 2 hours in Pompeii, from €90 per person, with limoncello on the way.
Travelers happy to walk Pompeii alone, and families: the listing offers a booster seat, and wheelchair access can be arranged if you tell the operator in advance.
Nobody guides you inside and entry isn't included, so add the park's €20 ticket. The guided options cost €115 from Naples and €125 from Salerno, but the operator may provide an audio guide if too few people book. What I'd do: pay the €25 extra from Naples and confirm a live guide for your date.

Option: Pompeii & Positano - English
Choose Pompeii & Positano for the full day from Rome: 2 guided hours in Pompeii with entry included, 2 hours free in Positano, from €109 per person, back in about 12 hours.
One day in the south and a willingness to spend most of it on the road.
Read the option name first: two of the seven options skip Pompeii, and two skip Positano. The shared tour allows up to 50 travelers. What I'd do: book the named Pompeii & Positano option and nothing else.

Take the group tour for 3 hours in Pompeii with an archaeologist, the longest time inside on this page, plus the coast drive and free time in Positano, from €199 per person in a guided group of eighteen.
Anyone who wants the park itself rather than the drive, and who can manage a 13-hour day.
The ticket is the Pompeii Express, which the park's table prices at €20 for the ancient city. The listing's booking notes say only its 6:15 departure adds the Villa of the Mysteries, and the stored schedule lists 6:30, 7:00 and 7:15. The group of 18 is the one walking Pompeii; the vehicle can carry two groups. What I'd do: this one from Rome, and sleep on the way back.

Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast tours: which others did we compare?
Beside the selection: private cars, two transfers that stop at Pompeii on the way, the Ravello half day and the big Rome coach we compare on our From Rome page. Each has its own page with our check of the listing.
Seven Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tours listed beside the selection, compared by the named option.
Best of Amalfi Coast & Pompeii: Exclusive Private Day Experience: Private day, the most reviewed private option, no tickets or guide. A private day with an English-speaking driver from anywhere in the area: the coast, Sorrento, Positano and 2 hours in Pompeii. Five stars across 440 reviews, more than any other private day here
Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Private Day Trip with Pick Up: Private day with a tickets-and-guide option. A private car from Naples, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi or Salerno with Pompeii, a pass by the Furore fjord and the Amalfi cathedral, or Villa Rufolo in Ravello instead. The base option leaves entry and the guide to you; the ticket-and-guide option covers both and starts at €213 per adult.
Pompeii & Amalfi Coast Private Tour: Archaeologist-led, Flexible: Private day led by an archaeologist. A private minivan with an archaeologist guiding the Pompeii walk, flexible on where you start and what you see. The Pompeii&Amalfi with Tickets option covers park entry for €173 per person; the base option doesn't.
Half Day Tour to Pompeii from Ravello: Half a day from Ravello. Aiana Travel runs this 4-to-5-hour trip from Ravello, with a two-hour guided visit and Pompeii entry included.
Naples to Positano/Sorrento Transfer via Pompeii (or Vice Versa): The same idea with Sorrento as an option. A one-way private transfer from Naples to Positano or Sorrento with a Pompeii stop on the way, or the reverse. The listing quotes the Pompeii fee itself and recommends arranging a guide separately.
Pompeii, Amalfi Coast and Positano Day Trip from Rome: The Rome day with the most reviews on this page, compared on our Rome page. The same operator's bigger Rome coach: Pompeii, the coast drive and 2 hours free in Positano, with 7,107 reviews, more than any other tour on this page. We compare it in our From Rome selection, so it sits beside the list here.
Can I reach Pompeii from the coast without a tour?
Bus and train from the coast
€20 adult city entry; named tickets on Vivaticket; bus and train fares extra
Book the named Pompeii ticket on Vivaticket before you travel; the morning quota can be gone on the day.
From Positano or Amalfi, check the SITA service toward Sorrento. From Ravello, check the connection to Amalfi first.
At Sorrento take the Circumvesuviana toward Naples to Pompei Villa dei Misteri; enter at Porta Marina with ID.
Keep the park's 2 to 3 hours minimum in mind, and check the last return connections for your date.
from €90 per person; eight shared departures above our bar, entry on five of eight
Hotel pickup from Positano and anywhere on the coast road, Ravello beside the list; fixed points in Naples and Rome.
Two hours inside Pompeii on seven of the eight, three on the Rome group tour.
Back in 4 to 5 hours from the coast, 6 to 7 on the winery day, 8 to 9 from Naples, 12 to 13 from Rome.
What I'd do: a coast pickup if I am already there; the bus and train only with a whole day and a plan for the return.
Park tickets and directions: Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
What should I check before booking?
How long do I actually get inside Pompeii?
Two hours on seven of the eight, three on the Rome group tour, the longest here. The Positano pickup lists a two-hour walk inside a stop of 2 hours 15 minutes. Two hours is a short walk through Pompeii; check the route each listing names, and remember the park recommends at least 2 to 3 hours for a visit. What I'd do: treat two hours as the walk, not the visit, and come back another day if the city is the point.
Is the park ticket in the price?
On five of the eight. The three days from Naples leave it to you: the park's city ticket costs €20, and on the Sorrento and coast day the operator asks €22 per adult in cash on arrival instead, so ask whether it accepts a ticket you bought yourself. Both coast pickups include skip-the-line entry; the winery day and the Piazza del Popolo coach include entry without naming the ticket, and the Rome group tour names the Pompeii Express, the park's €20 city ticket. What I'd do: buy the named ticket on Vivaticket where it isn't included, after checking the cash question with Mondo Guide.
Does the Villa of the Mysteries come with these?
A guided visit to the Villa of the Mysteries isn't confirmed on any of the eight. The Rome group tour names the Pompeii Express, the city-only ticket. The other options that include entry don't identify the exact park ticket, so ask before booking. Where entry is extra, the park's €25 ticket covers the villa, and a €20 holder can add the villa route for €8 at Porta Ercolano, card only; check that the day leaves time for it. What I'd do: visit the villa on a separate, slower day; it sits a long walk beyond the main gate.
Which coast towns do I see?
From April to October, five of the eight list Positano and three list Sorrento. From November to March the Rome group tour swaps Positano for Sorrento, which makes it four and four. The Di Sarno option lists a Positano viewpoint from the road, not free time in the town. The two coast pickups name no towns at all: they take you from your hotel to Pompeii and back, and the winery day goes to a Vesuvius cellar instead of a coast town. What I'd do: check the option name for the towns; on the Rome coaches the name is the itinerary.
I'm staying on the coast. Is a day trip to Pompeii worth it?
Yes, and it costs you half a day rather than a whole one. The Positano pickup and the coast pickup both collect you at your hotel or the nearest point a vehicle can reach, give you 2 guided hours inside with entry included and have you back in 4 to 5 hours. From Ravello, Aiana Travel runs the same kind of half day, listed beside the selection. What I'd do: a morning pickup, and the beach in the afternoon.
Can I do Pompeii and the coast from Rome in one day?
You can, and it costs 12 to 13 hours for two or three hours in Pompeii and two hours in a coast town. The Piazza del Popolo coach runs 12 hours from €109; the group tour runs 13 and gives the longest time inside. The bigger coach from the same operator, beside the list, has more reviews than any other tour on this page. What I'd do: take the train to Naples and stay a night instead, unless this is your only chance.
What does a private car add?
A private vehicle gives your party its own transfer, but the option still sets the pickup area, the waiting time and the stops, and usually leaves out tickets and a guide. The three private days beside the selection run from €96.78 to €173 per person. One sells an option with both park entry and a Pompeii guide, from €213 per adult; another already includes the guide and sells a ticket-inclusive option at €173. Two transfers there will stop at Pompeii for two hours between Naples and the coast, which is useful on the day you change base. What I'd do: confirm the total for your hotel and route, with entry and a guide added.
What do these days cost?
The Naples options start at €90 without a Pompeii guide, and €130 for each of the other two. The coast pickups are €149 and €169, the winery day €239, the Rome days €109 and €199. Budget the park's €20 city ticket on the CiaoNaples and Di Sarno options. Mondo Guide asks €22 per adult in cash; confirm whether it accepts a ticket bought separately. Viator data from October 19, 2026. What I'd do: compare the total with the ticket added, then look at how many hours you get for it.
Tour conditions: Viator data from October 19, 2026. Park rules: Archaeological Park of Pompeii, checked .
How were these tours chosen?
Viator lists 296 Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tours. Forty-five clear 4.5 stars and 30 reviews. We chose eight shared options to cover three starting areas and different kinds of day, three from Naples, three from coast hotels and two from Rome, then ordered that shortlist by our published score. It is an editorial shortlist, not the eight highest-scoring products. How tours are compared.
