Pompeii tickets: €20, €25 or €30, and which one has the villa
Take the €25 ticket if you want the Villa of the Mysteries, €20 if you don't. Both are named, both are one entry, and both count against 20,000 places a day. Pompeii Plus is €30 for three days across five sites. Buy for the morning if your date is fixed.

The €2 rate is for EU citizens aged 18 to 24 and for non-EU citizens with an Italian residence permit. Single sites outside Pompeii, Boscoreale, Oplontis or the Stabiae museum, are €8 each; the two Stabiae villas are free. The MyPompeii card is €45 for a year of all sites, €10 for EU citizens under 25. Oplontis, the Stabiae villas and the museum close on Tuesdays.

Is the Villa of the Mysteries included?
Only with the €25 ticket. The €20 ticket stops at the walls; the €30 Pompeii Plus row doesn't name the villa either. If you're already inside on a €20 ticket, the villas route can be added for €8, card only, where the route starts at Porta Ercolano.
The villa keeps its own hours, and the gate that leads to it closes earlier than the villa does. Reach Porta Ercolano by 17:30 in summer and 15:30 in winter. The Villa of Diomedes runs on the same hours.

Do I need to book Pompeii tickets in advance?
If your date is fixed, yes. Pompeii admits 20,000 people a day on named tickets, and in summer the day is split into a morning and an afternoon. The ticket offices sell the same tickets, but they can't sell a place that's gone.
The split runs from March 16 to October 14. In winter the entry periods stay, 9:00 to 13:00 and 13:01 to 15:30, without a published split of places. These are limits, not what's left for your date: the sales calendar shows that.
What if the morning is sold out?
Take the afternoon if your day is fixed: entry from 13:01, closing at 19:00 in summer, so about five hours before the last rooms shut. If your date can move, move it; a morning place is worth more than a different gate, because every gate sells from the same count.
What time does Pompeii close?
Closed December 25 and January 1. The villa route through Porta Ercolano closes at 17:30 in summer and 15:30 in winter.

Where can I buy official tickets for Pompeii?
- Choose the ticket. €25 if the villa is on your list, €20 if it isn't, €30 if you'll use three days for Oplontis and Stabiae too.
- Pick the date, and the morning or the afternoon. Summer places are counted separately for the two periods.
- Enter every visitor's name as it appears on the passport or ID. The name and the date can't be changed later.
- Buy at pompeii.vivaticket.it, the park's own seller. Or at a ticket office inside the site, at one of the three gates below.
- Bring the ID or passport with the ticket. Bags up to 30 × 30 × 15 cm; dogs up to 10 kg.

Can I get reduced or free entry?
The €2 ticket
EU citizens aged 18 to 24. Also non-EU citizens with an Italian residence permit, if it was issued for one of the reasons on the Foreign Ministry's list. Bring the document that proves it.
Free on the first Sunday
Every first Sunday of the month, with special entry measures on the day. The daily limit still stands, so it's the busiest day of the month.
Free for 30 days elsewhere
For 30 days a Pompeii ticket also opens four places nearby: the museum of Volcei in Buccino, the Castle of Lettere, the Longola park in Poggiomarino, the Terzigno museum. None of them is in Pompeii.

What else should I know before buying?
Is "Pompeii Express" the €20 ticket?
Yes. The park's quota notice calls the €20 ticket "Pompeii express" and the €25 one "Pompei +". The prices are the safer names.
Do I need ID to enter?
Yes. Every ticket carries a name, online and at the offices, and it's checked against your ID or passport.
Can I leave and come back?
No. The €20 and €25 tickets are one entry. Pompeii Plus gives one entrance to each of its sites over three days, not two to Pompeii.
Are the entry periods fixed?
The morning period runs to 13:00 and the afternoon starts at 13:01, in both seasons. Your ticket is for one of the two.
Can I add the villa later?
Yes, on a €20 ticket. It's €8 by card at Porta Ercolano, where the villas route starts. That covers the Villa of the Mysteries, the Villa of Diomedes and Boscoreale.
What can I bring in?
A bag up to 30 × 30 × 15 cm. A dog up to 10 kg and 40 cm at the withers. Bigger bags stay outside.
