Is this tour right for you?

Choose Pompei & Vesuvius English Tour from Piazza Tasso. You get 2.5 guided hours in Pompeii before the crater walk. Allow 8 hours for the day.

The coach takes you to both sites and back to Sorrento. Both entries are included. You have 1 hour for lunch at your own expense.

Book this only if a change to Herculaneum would suit you. Herculaneum entry may replace Vesuvius when the crater gate closes. The Pompeii ticket type isn't named; check Villa of the Mysteries access.

What I'd do: book the English group tour outside the first Sunday of the month for priority entry.

Chiara VitaleWrites pompeii.day

I grew up in Castellammare di Stabia, under the volcano, and spent six seasons on hotel front desks in Sorrento. Which ticket, which train, which gate, how many hours: I've answered these more times than I can count.

Now I live in Pompei, ten minutes on foot from the Amphitheatre gate, and I go into the site most weeks on a MyPompeii card. For this page I compared the options and booking terms with the park's rules. I haven't taken this trip. Report a correction.
