What should I check before booking?
Which comes first, Pompeii or the crater?
Pompeii first on the wine-and-lunch day and the skip-the-line day, with the climb after lunch; the crater first on the pizza day. Beside the list, the Elite tour and the pickups day do Pompeii first, the minibus of sixteen climbs first, and the three-site day starts at Herculaneum and ends in Pompeii. What I'd do: the crater first from June to September; the heat on the path is real.
Are both tickets included?
On all three in the list, and on three of the four shared days beside it; the three-site day includes only the Vesuvius ticket, so you buy Pompeii (€20) and Herculaneum (€16). Two listings beside the list need a second look: the cheapest option on the Elite tour, Valley of Hell, skips the crater, and the minibus of sixteen names the Pompeii Express ticket, which is the park's €20 city ticket without the suburban villas. The private days name the tickets on one of three. What I'd do: pick the option by name, not by the lowest price on the listing.
Where do the tours leave from in Naples?

The tours allow 90 minutes to 2 hours at the park, so you walk at the group's pace; the operators ask for moderate fitness, and the Elite listing warns of loose gravel and uneven ground. No toilets at the top square. What I'd do: closed shoes with grip, water, and a hat; the top is bare.
What happens if the crater is closed?
The park closes the path on days with an orange weather alert or above. The pizza day gives free time at Herculaneum instead; the skip-the-line day offers Herculaneum entry; the wine-and-lunch day names no replacement visit in its listing.
