Small-group Pompeii tours: 9 walks capped at 15 or fewer

Our selection: 9 of the 59 small-group Pompeii tours listed on Viator. Each row is one named option: what the price covers, how long you get inside Pompeii and where you meet.

We read the 33 listings that clear 4.5 stars and 30 reviews, kept the nine with the strongest ratings, review counts and inclusions, then compared those nine by the group cap in the listing, hours inside, which ticket is in the price and where you meet. Viator data from October 19, 2026.

By Chiara Vitale · Sources checked · Viator data from October 19, 2026 · prices, options, group sizes and terms rechecked November 8, 2026 · 5 of 9 listings changed

Small group is a number, and the number sits in the listing's own data. We kept the shared walks capped at 15 people or fewer. Walks that call themselves small-group but cap at 16 to 20 are listed aside, with the real figure.

All nine walks start at a Pompeii gate and last 2 to 3 hours with an archaeologist or a licensed guide. Six include park entry. Check which ticket: the city ticket doesn't cover the Villa of the Mysteries. Starting prices run from €25 to €180 per person; Viator data from October 19, 2026.

Choose the walk for six if the group size is the whole point. Take the fifteen-place walk with entry for the most reviews under the cap. Pick the 3-hour walk if 2 hours feels short, and the €27 walk if you already hold a park ticket.

What I'd do: book the walk for six for the first slot of the morning.

Rainy days and tight connections: you meet indoors, beside the train. The route names the Forum baths, the House of the Faun and the House of the Vettii.

Small-group Pompeii tours: which others did we compare?

These fit the brief but not the main list; each has its own page with our check of the listing.

Can I visit Pompeii without a guide?

Arrange your own visit

€20 adult city entry; €25 with the Villa of the Mysteries; valid from January 12, 2026
  1. Book your named ticket on the park's Vivaticket. Choose €25 if you want the Villa of the Mysteries.
  2. From Naples, take the Circumvesuviana toward Sorrento.
  3. Get off at Pompei Villa dei Misteri.
  4. Enter at Porta Marina with ID. Use the park's map to choose your route.

Book a small-group walk

from €25 per person; shared walk capped at 15; park entry on six of nine
  • Two to three hours with an archaeologist or licensed guide.
  • Meeting points at the gates, a few minutes from the station.
  • Entry included on six walks; the other three need your own ticket.
What I'd do: go alone on a return visit and take a small-group walk the first time.

Park tickets and directions: Archaeological Park of Pompeii.

What should I check before booking?

What counts as a small group in Pompeii?

The number in the listing. We used 15 people or fewer for the main list. Viator products call 20 people small-group, so read the cap, not the title. The smallest shared walk here takes six, the Semi Private Group Tour. Two more cap at ten. What I'd do: pick by the cap first, then by the ticket.

Is park entry included?

On six of the nine walks, yes. Check which ticket. The station walk names the city ticket; the fifteen-place walk includes entry but doesn't name the ticket type. The Villa of the Mysteries needs the €25 ticket. Three walks exclude entry: the €25 walk, the €27 walk and the five-star walk. Buy a named ticket on Vivaticket before you come. What I'd do: buy the €25 ticket and a walk without entry, then the villa alone.

Where do I meet the guide?

At the gate, within a few minutes of the station. The Coffee Shop Vittoria and the Suisse restaurant both sit by the Porta Marina Inferiore entrance; the park also lists Piazza Esedra as an entrance of its own. Hortus restaurant faces Porta Marina Superiore. Bar Sgambati stands beside Pompei Villa dei Misteri station. One walk meets on the first floor of the station building. What I'd do: arrive 15 minutes early; timed tickets don't wait.

How long is the walk?

Two hours on most walks, which covers the Forum and the houses around it. The walk for six runs 2.5 hours. The Complete Pompeii Tour runs 3 hours. The park's own minimum for a visit is 2 to 3 hours. You can't leave and come back, so stay inside after the guide finishes. What I'd do: a 2-hour walk, then an hour alone at the far end of the site.

Small group or private?

Compare the totals. A shared walk costs €25 to €180 per person here. A private walk with an official guide starts at €89 per group for 2 hours. Shared can cost less for two; compare both totals with entry included. For a family of five, set €89 for the group against five per-person prices. What I'd do: shared for two, both totals from four.

Can I bring children?

Eight of the nine walks have age bands for children: child rates start at 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 depending on the operator, and the five-star walk charges one adult rate from age 3. The €27 walk takes bookings from 14. Strollers work on the main streets and not on the stepping stones; the listings that mention them say strollers are allowed. What I'd do: for children under 10, look at the tours built for kids.

What happens if I'm late?

The guide leaves. Two operators say so in plain words: the tickets are booked for that time and the group won't wait. No refunds for a missed start. Cancellation is 24 hours ahead for a full refund on the walks that state it. What I'd do: take the train before the one you need.

How much does a small-group walk cost?

From €25 to €180 per person for the walks in the main list, Viator data from October 19, 2026. Six include park entry worth €20 or €25. Add the ticket to the price of the three walks that exclude it before you compare. What I'd do: compare the price with entry added, not the headline.

Tour conditions: Viator data from October 19, 2026. Park rules: Archaeological Park of Pompeii, checked .

How were these tours chosen?

Viator lists 59 small-group Pompeii tours. We read the 33 listings that clear 4.5 stars and 30 reviews, and kept nine by rating, number of reviews and what each trip actually includes. How tours are compared.
