Is this tour right for you?

Choose Pompeii without Vesuvius for a 9-hour day. Your 2-hour guided walk comes before free time. Pompeii entry and return coach travel are included; lunch costs extra.

Crater Hike and Geologist Walk each last 12 hours. Both include lunch and Vesuvius entry; only the crater option reaches the top. Small Group Pompei & Vesuvius includes the crater and lunch in an 11-hour day.

The small group option takes up to eight people. Standard shared departures can reach 42 people, and the included Pompeii ticket type isn't named. Check Villa of the Mysteries access before booking if it matters to you.

What I'd do: I'd choose Pompei & Vesuvius Crater Hike if reaching the crater were the reason for adding the volcano.

Chiara VitaleWrites pompeii.day

I grew up in Castellammare di Stabia, under the volcano, and spent six seasons on hotel front desks in Sorrento. Which ticket, which train, which gate, how many hours: I've answered these more times than I can count.

Now I live in Pompei, ten minutes on foot from the Amphitheatre gate, and I go into the site most weeks on a MyPompeii card. For this page I compared the options and booking terms with the park's rules. I haven't taken this trip. Report a correction.
