Is this tour right for you?

Book this for one archaeologist guide across both sites in a private Mercedes van: the guide, the van and the route are in the price; the tickets and the lunch aren't.

The itinerary names the Temple of Apollo, the Forum, the House of the Vettii, the Insula of the Chaste Lovers and the Large Theatre in Pompeii, then lunch at the Cantina del Vesuvio, then Herculaneum with the Antiquarium. The tour doesn't reach the top of Vesuvius.

About €50 for both admissions in the booking record; the parks list €20 and €16. Ask what the difference covers and whether you can buy the tickets separately.

The winery lunch costs €50, or €60 with the superior wine upgrade, paid there. The with-kids option costs €910 per group. Moderate fitness.

What I'd do: this for a group of six that wants both sites with one guide, with the tickets and €50 a head for lunch budgeted.

Chiara Vitale Writes pompeii.day

I grew up in Castellammare di Stabia, under the volcano, and spent six seasons on hotel front desks in Sorrento. Which ticket, which train, which gate, how many hours: I've answered these more times than I can count.

Now I live in Pompei, ten minutes on foot from the Amphitheatre gate, and I go into the site most weeks on a MyPompeii card. For this page I compared the options and booking terms with the park's rules. Report a correction.
